As a participant in the Capital District Scottish Games in Altamont, NY, over Labor Day weekend, Hapy Mayer’s picture was snapped while competing in the sheaf toss.
Nice form, Hapy!

Nice tip. The command-key also works in Tiger.
“Note that the clock and Spotlight cannot be removed with this tip, as they are not really menu ‘extras.’”
This is not correct. You can remove and rearrange the Clock like all the other menu extras.
The two “special” items in the menu bar are the Apple on the left and the Spotlight on the right.
Nice. Another way to ensure the iSync icon is persistently (across reboot) removed from the menu bar is to use the iSync Preferences – http://blog.gingergeek.com/2009/06/how-to-remove-the-isync-mobileme-icon-from-menu-bar/.
Sadly, 3rd party icons don’t seem to conform. I can’t re-arrange VMWare, Moby, Evernote, etc.
