Mountain Lion users, the first update has been released. Apple has released OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1, available in the Mac App Store under the Updates tab. As always, Apple (and we) recommend backing up your data before you start — just in case. You’ll need to restart your machine once it’s finished, so make sure you’re at a good stopping point.

Per Apple’s update notes, they state that 10.8.1 will include the following:

  • Addresses an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display
  • Improves 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials
  • Improves compatibility between Microsoft Exchange and Apple Mail
  • Resolves various issues in Migration Assistant, iMessage and Safari
  • Resolves an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names

Additionally, it’s reported that battery life is addressed — some users have complained that they’re receiving less than half of the ideal run time, and that this update may get battery drainage back to normal levels. We will see. If this has affected you, let us know if your laptop now fares better!

The Mountain Lion 10.8.1 is about 7MB via the Mac App Store or 24.2MB via direct download from Apple’s website, found here.

Well, I had recently revived the mouse Via my uncle, that got it as a gift… Even though he loves Apple as a company, he had no use for the mouse since he has yet to get a Mac. So being the Mac user I am, he sent it to me. And may I just say, “what great timing.” It’s funny since I was in the market for a BT mouse and was wishing that the Mighty Mouse would become BT. (BT=Blue Tooth) And this thing is awesome. I love how the mouse has a second click function but technically it has only one button. This helps keep that Apple ascetic that we all know and love. Along with keeping the mouse clean, with the lack of cracks on the top, I won’t be seeing any Cheetos dust settling in. I am surprised on how much I like the “scroll ball,” I thought it would be some lame addition… but it works just as advertised. It does feel a little cheap, but hey…. it works. The only thing I don’t like physically is the side “squeeze” action. I turned it off, but even with the buttons having no function I still find my hand pressing them, accidentally as I work.
Now for the functionality. This mouse as some of you know uses a “laser” instead of an optical eye. This means that the mouse has huge accuracy increase and the ability to now work on ANY flat surface. The optical mice said “almost any” since they could not work on some fabrics and would not work on glass. However the laser can. Sure it has one or two materials that it can’t be used on. Trust me, you won’t know or notice since the materials are rather unusual to the common households.
I noticed a great improvement when using the mouse with Adobe CS and Halo. However even with its great accuracy that I need in my digital art work…work, I am not going to trade up my Wacom pad any time soon.
Lastly, I think this is an awesome mouse for both travelers with a Macbook or Powerbook, and is perfect for any home users that want to make there desk clutter free and highly functional. Given its style, size, function, and practicality. I give the BT Mighty Mouse a perfect 5 out of 5. (I would have given it a 4, but with he ability to use either 1 or 2 AA batters, makes this extremely portable and easy for the days when I can only borrow one battery out of the TV remotes.)
